Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are synthetic lashes that are meticulously attached to individual natural lashes using medical grade adhesive.  This is a non-invasive service and the extensions are attached to the natural lash and not the skin.  They enhance natural beauty by creating a mascara look and can be customized from a subtle pop to a more dramatic full look.

  • What are lash extensions made of?

At Seattle lash pro, classic lash extensions are made of synthetic faux mink which provides consistent quality and a lightweight feel.  Volume lashes are made of premium silk for a soft and delicate wear.

  • What is used to glue the lash extensions on?

The adheisive used is the latest in German technology boasting a super fast dry time and increased retention of 6 to 7 weeks.  The main ingredient is cyanoacrylate black and special care is taken to ensure it never touches the skin.

  • How long does it take for a full set appointment?

Full sets take about 2 hours depending on the amount of natural lashes each client has.

  • What is the upkeep for eyelash extensions?

Lash extensions will shed with your natural lash.  Natural lashes are constantly growing and shedding with a life cycle ranging from a few weeks to a few months.  Generally your upper lid can range from 150-200 follicles per eye.  It varies with age or damage to the follicle.  Natural lashes grow at different rates so you're shedding lashes while new baby lashes are growing. There are 3 phases to the growth cycle.  The anagen phase is the new growth or baby hair stage.  Next is the catagen phase or transitional phase which is short, only a few weeks.  Then the telogen phase known as the resting phase and can last 3-4 months.  As new lashes start to grow in they push the old lash out.  Extensions are only attached to lashes in the catagen or telogen phases because the baby hairs are too weak.  Clients can expect to shed approximately 50% of their extensions over a 2 week span so an hour fill every 2 weeks is the most common schedule.  Some clients may be able to extend their appointments to 3 weeks.  Mini fills can be used for a touch up between regular hour fills.  Extended fills are great before a special occasion, vacation or if you can't get back in for a longer period of time.

  • Are there any products not recommended while having lash extensions?

Use of any oil based products around the eye or in facial cleansers is not reccomended.  Oil based products weaken the bond of the adheisve leading to premature shedding.  Using makeup finishing spray can also weaken the bond so be sure to shield your lashes if you continue using a finishing spray.  When using any kind of spray for your hair, it is reccomended to shield your lash extensions as well.

  • Can I use a lash curler on my extensions?

No, you won't need to use a curler because the extensions come in different options of curl to your desired look.  Using a curler will lead to damaging your natural lashes.

  • Can I go swimming with lash extensions?

Water and swimming is completely fine with lash extensions.  When swimming in a clorinated pool or salt water, it is reccomended rinsing with fresh water afterwards.  The best way to dry wet lash extensions is by closing your eye and gently pressing down on the lashes to soak up water.  Never rub your eyes from side to side because this can snag at the base of the extension causing them to pop off or weaken the bond and lead to shedding them sooner.

  • Can I get a spray tan with lash extensions?

Yes as long as the spray doesn't get in your lash extensions since any product that gets on lashes will lead to premature shedding of your extensions.  Either cover your extensions with the small eye cover from tanning salons or use the hair net to cover your face and use a facial self tanner.

  • What is the difference between Classic, Volume, and Hybrid?

Classic lash extensions are one-to-one or one extension to one natural lash.  Volume lash extensions are thinner lashes in a fan of 5 extensions to one natural lash.  Hybrid is a blend of Classic and Volume giving more variety to your look.   Classic is perfect for the "Are your lashes real?" mascara look whereas Volume is the full fluffy dramatic option.

  • How should I sleep with lash extensions?

Sleeping on your back is the best way to sleep with lash extensions.  For side sleepers a sleep mask specifically designed for lash extensions is reccomended.

  • Will eyelash extensions ruin my natural lashes?

With proper application eyelash extensions won't damage your natural lashes.   It is important when applying eyelash extensions to only attach the extension to one individual natural lash.  Aftercare will be provided to ensure your natural lashes stay healthy.

  • Can I get eyelash extensions removed?

A cream based remover that is specifically designed to dissolve adhesive leaves natural lashes clean and free of damage.  Removals are booked at 30 minutes but may require less time for the process.
