What's the key to keeping your lash extensions looking great?  Following aftercare instructions to a T!

Cleansing 101

The foundation to caring for your lash extensions originates with keeping them clean.

Eyelashes protect your eyes and act as a barrier, catching debris like dust or pollen.  When you have thick beautiful lash extensions they catch more and buildup over time.  Regular cleaning is necessary to prevent buildup from debris, makeup and allergens in the air. At Seattle Lash Pro, I recommend using our LASH Wash or a gentle oil-free cleanser.   Seattle Lash Pro LASH Wash is easy to use and comes in a foam pump bottle.

SEATTLE LASH PRO LASH Wash INSTRUCTIONS:

  •  One pump per eye and gently brush with a lash wand or brush.
  • Always clean from root to tip because side to side can snag your extensions causing them to pop off and/or weaken the bond.
  • Rinse and gently pat dry or low heat dryer if preferred.
  • Clean 3-4 times per week or daily if you have allergies or wear eye makeup daily.

PRO TIP: Keep your LASH Wash in the shower for your convenience.

Eyelash Extension Aftercare Tips

At home care is the utmost priority to extend the retention and life of your eyelash extensions.  Follow my tips I've acquired over the years to keep your lashes looking beautiful between appointments!

  • Avoid Pressing Down Lashes While Sleeping

Sorry to say it stomach sleepers but you may need to come in a little more often for touch ups.  Back sleeping is the best option for prolonging the life of your lashes.  If you're a side sleeper try sleeping on the corner of your pillow or you can use a sleep mask specifically made for eyelash extensions.  Stomach and side sleeping can tug and rub on your lashes, weakening the bond and causing premature shedding of your lash extensions.

  • Maintain Regular Appointments

To keep your lashes looking full and beautiful, staying on a regular 2 week appointment schedule is recommended.  Some clients, who follow aftercare properly, may be able to opt for 3 weeks in-between fills.  Luckily at Seattle Lash Pro there are options for different appointments, from a 30 mini minute fill to 1.5 hour extended fill.

  • Treat Your Lashes With Care

It's important to not over brush your lashes, only as needed, since the extra friction can lead to weakening the bond.  Avoid touching them with your fingers because natural oils from your skin can also lead to premature shedding.  At all costs avoid tugging. rubbing or pulling your lashes.  This will not only remove your lash extensions but also can damage your natural lashes too.  If you have a lash bothering you don't try to solve it at home, send me a message and stop by the salon so I can help with the bothersome lash.

  • Avoid Oil Products and Spray Cosmetics

Oil based products can weaken the bond so take extra care applying eye creams.  Hair spray, sunscreen spray, and makeup sprays can get in your lashes and clump them and/or weaken the bond so try shielding your lashes while spraying.  Spray tans can weaken the bond and/or clump up your lashes as well.  Using the provided hair net at suntan salons you can put an extra one over your face and use an at home facial self Tanner.  You can also try using one of the small eye covers to shield your lashes.

  • Take Care Around High Heat And/Or Steam

The synthetic mink classic lashes and silk volume lashes are susceptible to steam and/or high heat.  With steam from saunas or facials, your extensions straighten out and/or the bond is weakened, shortening the life of your eyelash extensions.  Let your esthetician know you have lash extensions when receiving a facial so they can take extra care around your eyes.  Be cautious when using the oven or grill, since high heat around your extensions can singe the tips causing your extensions to get stuck together and will require removal.  While opening the oven, stand to the side for the initial blast of heat to come out then pull out your food.  While grilling either opt out if someone else can take over or try not to stand too close.

  • Don't Get Lashes Wet For 24 To 48 Hours

If you've had lash extensions before or have done your own research online, you may have come across the no water on lash extensions for 24-48 hour rule.  This is a thing of the past because at Seattle Lash Pro a newer way to cure the adhesive is used.  The old options for curing glue was either using a fan or a fine mist of water.  Both options would only help cure the outside of the adhesive requiring clients to wait a few days before getting extensions wet, while the adhesive finished curing.  A new product called a bonder is used at Seattle Lash Pro, which fully cures the glue from the inside out so now clients can freely get their lashes wet after their appointments.  This has been a game changer, offering better retention and a more comfortable process at the end of appointments.

  • Opt For Using Eyelash Growth Serum Or Supplements

Clients who want to enjoy eyelash extensions for the long term or clients who worry about the health of their natural lashes, I recommend  a lash serum or growth supplements.  If extensions are applied improperly and glued all together, it can lead to permanent damage of your natural lashes.  No need to worry getting your lashes done at Seattle Lash Pro, with over 8 years of experience extra care is taken with proper isolation of your natural lashes so there are no clumpy stuck together lashes.  Growth serums can still be used with lash extensions increasing healthy natural lashes for better retention and even fuller lashes!  Using hair growth supplements or collagen has the added bonus of healthy natural lashes.
